Chalkboard Paint Projects

Our toddler had been playing a lot with chalk these past few days and I have been obsessing about chalkboard paint for quite some time now. Maqui had been so kind enough to share her chalkboard paint recipe. It's been months since she gave me the recipe but it was only recently when we really got to use it.

Here's an article that I made for Yahoo! She about our recent projects with chalkboard paint.

  1. Hi! Is it true that when you make your own chalkboard paint you have to mix your latex paint and grout one cup at a time? - Mix and use immediately, Or can I mix 1 liter of acrylic paint with the right amount of grout? I'm planning to paint my walls, hopefully I don't have to mix and paint with every one cup.

Do you also know how much and where can I buy chalkboard paints here in the Philippines? Thank you! :)

  2. Hi!

what I did was mix the black paint an grout by bulk. I don't remember if it was an entire liter that I used but I definitely didn't do it by the cup.

I have not found any ready-made chalkboard paint the last time I've been to True Value, Handy Man and Ace hardware. I didn't exactly ask around for it but I usually check the paint aisles and go through the ones that they have on display. It's more fun to make your own!

I hope I was able to give you the answers that you need to help you with your project. Good luck

    1. That's a relief! I also want to ask if you used unsanded tile grout or just any type of grout?

  3. I used the sanded one. It gives the board more texture and also allows the chalk to "adhere" or "stick" to the surface. :)
